Correct use and care of the Kooley Cold Pad

New Generation in cooling therapy – important information. 

The Kooley Cold Pad can be placed directly to skin however we do advise testing on small area of skin when you first have contact with the Kooley Cold Pad. If the pad feels too cold just place a cloth between your skin and the cold pad or simply wait a few minutes before use

Care of the cold pad  – We advise wiping with clean water or sterile wipes, the cold pad MUST be dry before placing in the freezer and if the cold pad comes in contact with water/fluids when at low temperature there is a risk of skin burn/frostbite when in contact with your skin. We advise caution.

The Kooley Cold Pad  is an aid in reducing heat following injury or exercise. The Kooley Cold Pad does not claim to cure illness or trauma however it is an effective aid in treatment.

The risk of cold therapy to the user remains the same as with the standard ice pack as directed by the NHS.

  • Never apply ice to an area of your body where you cannot appreciate the difference between hot and cold.
  • Never apply ice to an area of your body where you have poor circulation. 
  • Never apply ice to your left shoulder if you have a heart problem.

PRICE Therapy

PRICE stands for protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation. The NHS advice is:

  • Protection – protect the affected area from further injury – for example, by using a support.
  • Rest – avoid exercise and reduce your daily physical activity. Using crutches or a walking stick may help if you can’t put weight on your ankle or knee. A sling may help if you’ve injured your shoulder.
  • Ice – apply an ice pack/cold pad to the affected area for 15-20 minutes every two to three hours. Wrap the ice pack in a towel so that it doesn’t directly touch your skin and cause an ice burn. 
  • Compression – use elastic compression bandages during the day to limit swelling.
  • Elevation – keep the injured body part raised above the level of your heart whenever possible. This may also help reduce swelling
